What the Puck?! — Game Privacy Notice

← Back to the games

Your privacy at a glance

Unity Analytics and Unity Ads are disabled. The game does not automatically upload your local saves, replays or its own diagnostic logs to Silly Bytes Ltd.

Online play still uses information. Steam and Unity process identifiers, profile names, connection details and match information for their platform and online features. This includes information processed on behalf of Silly Bytes Ltd.

Contacting support shares information with us. We receive and use your email address, message and any attachments to answer your request. Our support-retention policy limits each email and its attachments, including backups, to 60 days from receipt.

Effective date: 19 October 2026
Game version: v1.0

Who we are

SILLY BYTES LTD is registered in Scotland under company number SC906371 and develops and publishes What the Puck?!. Our registered office is 23 Osprey Terrace, Broughty Ferry, Dundee, DD5 3FX, Scotland, UK.

This notice explains how the game uses information and how we handle requests sent to our support address. It covers the game and game support, rather than the website's hosting or embedded video services.

For support or privacy questions, contact whatthepuck-game@pm.me.

Information saved on your PC

The game keeps career progress, statistics, challenges, unlocks and achievement records on your PC. Your language, audio, controls and other preferences are saved separately on that PC. The game uses your Steam profile name as your in-game display name. You do not enter a separate nickname in the game.

Local replays record match presentation and results so you can watch them again. They stay on your PC and are managed through the replay browser; the game does not automatically publish them.

Steam features

The game uses Steam account identifiers and profile information for Steam features, including friends and invitations, game presence, achievements and the overlay. Your Steam privacy settings affect how Steam displays your profile and activity.

When Steam Cloud is available and enabled for your account, it synchronises the game's career profile. Display names and other preferences, replays, diagnostic logs, backup files and authentication credentials are excluded from the game's Cloud save configuration. Steam Cloud can be controlled through Steam. Uninstalling the game may leave local saves or Steam Cloud copies behind.

Steam purchases, account services and platform records are handled by Valve. The game does not ask for your Steam password. Valve's privacy policy explains its processing: https://store.steampowered.com/privacy_agreement/

Online play

Online modes use Unity Authentication, Lobby, Relay and connection-quality services. The current game creates a Unity service identity through anonymous sign-in. This still creates a service identifier and SDK-managed credentials; it does not mean the connection is unidentifiable.

These services handle information needed to find and join matches and carry gameplay, such as service identifiers, connection and technical information, region, lobby participation and connection quality. Lobby data includes a display name and local player count. Participants in a match can see players' Steam profile names, teams, seats and gameplay. Room and connection data also support reconnecting and host migration.

Other players can see your Steam profile name during online play. Avoid including personal information in your Steam profile name that you do not want other players to see. You can use local play without joining an online match. Online services need the necessary connection and identity information to work.

Unity's player privacy policy explains its services: https://unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy

Diagnostics

The current release disables Unity Analytics, Unity Ads, cloud crash reporting and engine diagnostics. The game keeps its own error and match diagnostic records locally and does not automatically upload those game records to Silly Bytes Ltd. Steam and Unity can still process information needed for their platform and online services.

The game's own match diagnostics are limited to 128 files, 32 MiB and 30 days; its separate error records are limited to 16 files, 8 MiB and 14 days. Pruning applies to the game's managed diagnostic files. Ordinary Unity Player logs and platform or operating-system records are separate from those limits.

When you contact us

We receive your email address, your message and any files you choose to send. We use them to answer you, investigate problems and keep a record of the support we provide. We may ask for the minimum additional information needed to identify the relevant issue or respond to a privacy request.

Support requests are handled by Silly Bytes Ltd. We respond to support requests within 14 days. Proton Mail provides the email service that delivers and stores our messages; it does not answer game-support requests. We access support email through the Proton Mail website only. We do not forward support messages or download messages or attachments to a separate support system. Proton's email privacy information is at https://proton.me/mail/privacy-policy.

Why we use information

We use support emails and any files you choose to send to answer questions, investigate problems and help keep the game reliable and secure. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in supporting players and maintaining our game, balanced against your rights and interests.

Where necessary to perform a valid contract with you, we use service identifiers and connection information to provide the online features you request. We also process information where necessary to fulfil our legal obligations, including responding to privacy-rights requests.

Sharing and international processing

Silly Bytes Ltd is responsible for support information and information processed on its behalf. Proton Mail provides the email service used to receive, store and send those messages.

Unity provides online services, including Lobby and Relay, processing information on our behalf for those services. Valve is separately responsible for its Steam account, purchase and platform services under its own privacy notice.

Other players receive the names and match information needed for shared play. We may disclose information where legally required or where necessary to deal with a legal claim.

Proton states that its email servers are located in Switzerland, Germany or Norway. These destinations are covered by UK adequacy arrangements.

How long information is kept

Local saves and preferences remain on your PC until you remove or reset them. Manage replays in the replay browser. Steam Cloud copies and provider account or service records have separate controls and retention arrangements. Deleting a local file does not necessarily delete a synchronised or provider-held copy.

We keep each support email and its attachments for no more than 60 days from the date we receive that email, including any retained backup copies.

To meet this limit, our policy requires permanent deletion of each email and its attachments from our mailbox within 30 days of receipt, including copies in Trash and Sent. Proton states that its encrypted backups are kept for up to 30 days. A later reply or quoted copy must not restart the retention period for older information. This policy covers support correspondence under our control; it does not set the retention period for separate Steam or Unity records.

Your choices and rights

You can change your profile name through Steam, adjust your in-game preferences, manage local replays, control Steam privacy and Cloud settings, and choose local modes instead of joining an online match.

Depending on your location and the reason information is processed, you may have rights to access or correct personal information, request deletion or restriction, object to processing, or obtain a portable copy. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it. These rights are subject to the conditions in applicable law.

Email whatthepuck-game@pm.me to make a request about information handled by Silly Bytes Ltd. We may ask for proportionate information to verify the request. Do not email passwords or full identity documents unless we have separately explained a necessary, secure process. For information processed on our behalf, we will work with the relevant provider to handle your request. Where a provider is independently responsible for information, we will explain how to contact it about that information. This notice does not promise an in-game account-deletion button.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ or your relevant local supervisory authority.

Younger players

Steam accounts are subject to Valve's eligibility rules. You must be at least 13 to create a Steam account, and additional age restrictions may apply in your country. A game's content age rating does not change these account requirements. See the Steam Subscriber Agreement: https://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/

Parents and guardians should help younger players understand what their Steam profile name reveals to other players and use the available platform privacy and parental controls.

Children, parents and guardians can contact whatthepuck-game@pm.me with privacy questions or requests. Before sharing or deleting information in response to a parental request, we may need to check the requester's identity and authority to act. We consider the child's understanding, wishes and best interests, and request only the information reasonably needed.

Where a service provider processes information on our behalf, we will work with that provider to handle the request.

Changes to this notice

We will update this notice when the game's services or our handling of information changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. Where required, we will explain a material change before new processing begins.
